Insurance Cost

Insurance ImageIf you are considering purchasing a car or if you have just purchased a car you will need insurance. So where do you begin to shop for insurance? You may want to start on the Web. Getting several online insurance quotes is a free and easy way to find out what your insurance rates will be like. Most insurance Web sites will ask you a bunch of questions about you, your car, and your driving record. In their forms they normally ask you a series of yes or no questions regarding a number of different discounts that may apply to you. Once you finish the online form, the insurance company will send you a quote fairly quickly by email. This quote should include the name and phone number of an insurance agent closest to you. If you feel like there are more discounts that might apply to you, don't forget to mention them when you call the local insurance agency.

Before you purchase any type of auto insurance coverage, be sure to do your homework on coverage types so you don't end up paying for something you don't need. The minimum liability insurance requirements for the State of California are:

 15/30/5

The first two numbers refer to bodily injury liability limits and the third number refers to the property damage liability limit. For example, the first two numbers in 15/30/5 would mean in an accident each person injured would receive a maximum of up to 15,000 with only 30,000 allowed per accident (ex. 2 people needing 15,000, if the need is more such as 3 people needing 15,000 then whoever files first gets first access to the 50,000 limit and you may be sued for the rest if the accident was your fault!). The last number refers to the total coverage per accident for property damage which in this case would be 5,000.
