Welfare, WIC, and Unemployment
In the State of California all 58 counties have a Social Services office that offers application for several different types of Federal, State and County government assistance programs. These programs consist of Cal-Learn, CalWORKs, and EDD (employment development department).
Cal-Learn is offered to minor parents that are attending high school. CalWORKs is offered to minor parents that are not attending school, or have graduated or have received a G.E.D. The E.D.D. program is offered to clients that are seeking employment. Childcare is available while clients are attending these programs.
Current welfare rules ensure that individuals who work are better off than if they do'nt work. California's Welfare to Work (WTW) program is designed to assist welfare recipients to obtain or prepare for employment. The welfare to work program serves all 58 counties in the state and is operated locally by each county welfare department. For more information: http://dss.cahwnet.gov/cdssweb/Welfare-to
