The Job Application Process

How to Successfully Interview for a Job | Fair and Unfair Questions in an Interview

So you're ready to look for employment.  The job application process is the key to your success at finding a job that you enjoy and are good at.   Below are some very important steps to follow when beginning the job application process.

1.)  Create a Master Application with all of the pertinent information.  Have a friend or family member review the application for accuracy.  Take your Master Application with you when you go to complete Applications for Employment.  Note:  if you need assistance in developing a master application, contact your guidance or career counselor at your high school; if you are not a student your local "One Stop" can assist you with the Master Application.

2.)  You should complete 4 to 5 applications a day.  Applications should be completed on the spot unless otherwise indicated.  Keep a record of all applications completed, include: the date, the company to which you applied, and the person you spoke to about the job or who you turned the application in to).

3.)  You should always ask for the person in charge of hiring.  First impressions are very important; so make it a good one!  When you present your application to the person in charge of hiring, make sure to introduce yourself and tell him/her what you applying for.  The person doing the hiring will more likely remember you and be able to place a name and a face to the application they will be reviewing.  These days it is most appropriate to also have a resume available to turn in along with the job application.

4.)  Always follow-up on all contacts that you make when applying for jobs.  You should allow 7 to 14 days for a follow-up contact, unless the employer requested you to contact him/her sooner.

5.)  STAY motivated and positive; job hunting is not an easy task and requires dedication and persistence.

     Good Luck!
