One of the most exciting times in your life will be going out to live on your own.  Renting will probably be your best bet since you may not have the money for a downpayment on a house or condo.
 
If you know people who live in the area you are considering living in, ask around about what neighborhoods are good and safe and which are within a close distance from where you work or go to school so transportation is not so much of a burden.   Look through the local classified listings for rentals in the area you are looking to live in.  Looking at real estate listings will help determine what type of home you can afford and budget for.  When you find a few places within your price rance start off by visiting the rental offices of all of the places you are interested in.  If you find that you do not have time to visit every rental office in the area perhaps a rental listing office can help you. Keep in mind that some of these rental listing services may charge a fee to help locate a home for you.  There are also agencies that provide their services to the apartment seeker free of charge and collect money from the apartment complex should you sign a lease with them.  You can usually find listings for these types of agencies at the end of the real estate classified listings.
