Going to a Doctor's Office

Doctors OfficeVisiting th doctor is never really an exciting experience. Many of us often dread going to the doctor even though it is sometimes necessary. When going to see a doctor for the fist time it is important to establish a relationship with him/her and ask the right questions to ensure the person you are seeing is the right choice for you.

To better understand your health and medical care, you may want to ask your doctor questions. There is much information to absorb, so feel free to ask him or her to define new words or to explain any recommendations. You may also want to repeat what your doctor has told you, just to make sure you have understood everything.

To make the most of doctor visits, consider planning ahead. Whether it's your first meeting, or if you've been seeing the doctor for years, you may find it helpful to prepare a list of your questions and concerns beforehand. If it is your first visit to a new doctor, here is some information you may want to prepare for the doctor to review:

  •  All of your symptoms, when they began, how often you experienced them, and how they've changed
  • The medications you currently take
  • Your medical history
  • Any problems you may have with daily activities

Here are a few questions you may want to ask about your therapy and medications:

  • How and when should it be taken?
  • What are the side effects?
  • When should I contact a doctor?
  • How will it interact with other medications?
  • Is it covered by my insurance?
